This is the launch report for June 2, 2001.

We had 11 fliers accomplish 37 flights.  It appears that the weather scared off some people.  The clouds came and went.  There was a lot of sun.  the breeze picked up one in a while but wasn't to bad.  At times, a streamer was better than a chute.  Here's what we had.

Flier Flights Comments
Scott and Eric Brown 13

Scott and Eric were working on the alphabet today.  They put up an "A", a bunch of "Cs", and "F", three "Gs", and an H242.

He lost a couple of rockets.  The breeze was enough to make two-stage rockets really weather-cock.  When the second stage ignited, off they went.

His "Europa" on an H242 was very good.

Michael Deavers 2 Michael put up a Maxi Alpha 3 and a V-2.  Both flew on D-12s.  Estes needs to bring back some of the older kits.  That Maxi Alpha 3 sure flies great.  I'd like to see an "E" in it.
Eric Fadely 1 Eric flew his "Der Red Max" on a D-12.  Another nice rocket and flight.
John Martin 2 John put up two rockets.  He flew his "Python" on a D-12.  His large "Bomarc" went up on an F-25.  It was a spectacular flight.  It came done a little to soon in the corn field.  It suffer minor damage.  Nothing that some 5-minute epoxy can't fix.
Daniel Mashburn 2 Daniel put us his "Astrocam" a couple of times.  Once on a B6-4 then on a C6-7.  I think he got a good picture of the sky with the 4-second delay.  The 7-second delay gave his a good shot of the ground.  Almost to good.
Wayne Miller 3 Wayne put up three rockets and got back 4.  Not a bad deal.  Tracy Phelps and John Martin were able to retrieve a rocket from a tree the Wayne had put there last month.

Wayne had a really good flight of his LOC Norad on a F22.  It went real high.  The breeze made it go far.   Wayne spent some time in the woods.  I hope he checked himself for ticks.

Wayne's "38 Special" had a great flight on a G64.

Tracy Phelps 3 Tracy was burning some "Ds" today.  His "Super Nova" and "Grey Ghost" had nice flights.  His "Bull Pupp" needs a little more nose weight.  He did a bunch of skywriting if you know what I mean.
Lew Proudfoot 3 Lew is the newest member of SEVRA.  Lew has been flying model rockets for a long time.

He flew his "G. Harry Stine Memorial" rocket a couple of times.  He used an A10 and and A3.  Great flights.  This small rocket flew well.  The rocket is very light and it drifted.  We didn't think it was ever going to come down.  The second flight took it across the street into the woods.  We didn't think Lew was ever going to come out.  He finally emerged, but was rocketless.

Lew also flew an interesting rocket with the body tube made of vellum.  the "Vellum Streamer" flew great.  The ejection charge caused a slight problem with the body tube.

We hope to see a lot more of Lew in the future.  Welcome.

Aaron Weisenburger 3 Aaron had really good flights today.  His "Swirly" went up on a B6-4.  With a name like "Swirly" it makes you wonder if this should be a heads-up flight.

His "Lava Rock-It" went up twice.  Once on a B6 and again on a C6.

Don Wittenauer 5 Don had a good day.  He broke out some old rockets and dusted them off.  It was a test of some really old Elmer's glue.

The "Estes Vigilant" two stage went up on a C6 to a B6.  With the wind this worked out great using a streamer.  The Estes "Maverick" had an old fin glue joint come loose.  A little dancing on the way up.

A scratch build model with no recovery device went up on a C6.  It was light weight and drifted forever.  It landed across the soccer field.

Don woke up the neighbors with his EZI-65 on an H-220T.  Those blue thunder motors are noisy and the woods reflect the sound back.

The flight everyone has been waiting for finally happened.  The 15 pound "Concrete 2" sat on the pad for a long time waiting for the wind to die down.  Finally it did.  The J570 made a lot of noise and smoke.  Altitude - 1547 feet.  The main came out at 300 feet and the landing wasn't very far from the pad.

We were very happy that Ken Allen of Performance Hobbies was at our launch.  I was worried that with the low turn-out that it would discourage him from returning.  He will be back.  Ken has a good assortment of the things we need to fly at Nike Park.

I want to encourage everyone to join the NAR.  Yes, it costs a lot of money.  But if gives you insurance.  They also have a very good magazine.  The NAR also does a lot in getting laws changed.  In the past there were states that had banned rockets.  Massachusetts had banned rockets right after Robert Goddards first liquid fueled rocket flight.  That's why he went to Roswell NM.  The NAR was instrumental in getting that law changed.  They are now working with TRA in fighting the BATF concerning high power motors.

You have to be a member of NAR to join SEVRA.  You cannot fly high power (H motors and above) unless you join NAR.
