This is the launch report for
February 2, 2002.

We had our first launch of the year and it was a great success.  There was just a little bit of wind.  The sky was clear.  For February, we had a great turn-out and a lot of flights.

The wind was blowing towards the corn field and there was no corn.

We had 21 fliers and 81 flights.  It was a good day.  I really enjoyed the day.

Flier Flights Comments
Stephen Bradford 3 Stephen came out and made three flights.  His Quicksilver went up on an A10-3T.

His "Twister 2" flew two times on a B-6.

Pete and Jordan Covell 10

Jordan put his "Manta" up on an A8-3.  "Razor" flew on a B6-4.  He flew his "Alpha 3" on a C6-3.

Pete put up his "Mini Mars Lander"  twice on A10-3s.  His "Generic 2" flew on an A8-3 followed by a B6-4.  Then a C6-7.

Pete flew his "Area 51" on a C6-0.  There was a little bit of wind blowing.  It weather-cocked big time.

Pete's "Prowler" went up on a C6-3.

John Ficke 2 John flew his "Sizzler" on a C6-7.  He then put up his two-stage "SAM-X."  It had a C6-0 in the booster and a C6-7 in the sustainer.  Good staging.
Joe and Caleb Hill 15 Caleb flew his "Shark Attack" flew twice on an A10-3T.  His "Fury 2" went on an A10-3T.  Then there was the "American Beauty" on an A10-3T two times.

"Johnny 6" took to the sky on an A8-3.  Then there is this rocket the Caleb named "Test Flight."  Makes you think, is it the name or is it something weird.  It flew on an A8-3.

Caleb's "Osama's Death" took off on a B6-3.

Joe brought an interesting rocket.  The name is "Head's Up."  This is an interesting glider.  You do have to pay attention.  It really is a heads up flight.  This glider does some interesting loops.  It was well built  Flew great on a 1/2A2-3.  Then we went to the A10-3T.  Got some repair work to do.

Joe's "Apache" took to the skies three times.  An A8-3 , then a B6-4, followed by a C6-3.  His "AIM97" went on a C6-3.

Then there was "10."  Joe flew this on an F50-3T.  Great flight.  I noticed that he didn't let Caleb fly anything bigger than a "B."  What's going on here Joe?

Aaron Hollowell 2 Aaron came out and flew his "Black Hawk" a couple of times.  Each time on a C6.  C6 motors seemed to be the motor of choice at this launch.
Jay Kerr 1 You fill in the blanks.

Jay came out and flew his _________ on a ____.  He had a great flight.  Straight and steady.  Deployment at apogee.  Two chutes.  Great landing.  We've seen this many times.  On of these days he will surprise us and glue the launch lugs on.  I remember when he put them on with duct tape a few years ago a Battle Park.  I wonder when he will run out of those motors.

Jeff and John Koffel 10 John put up his "Mars Lander" on an A10-3T three times.  Nice little rocket.  His "Firestreak" flew on a C6-3.

John's "Nike Smoke" went up on a C6-5.

Jeff flew "Midnight" on an F52-5.  His "Crayon" left the pad two times with a G33-5 and a G64-7.

Jeff had a rough flight with his Warlock.  It went up on an I357.  Great flight up.  It appears as though there was just a little to much grease at the top end of the delay stack.  The ejection charge got greasy.  It didn't go off.  This is a good size rocket.  It go real short real quick on landing.  We've seen some great flights with this rocket.  I'm sure we'll see it rise again.

Jeff put up his "Red, White, and Blue II" on an I366 redline.  Those redline motors have a really neat red flame.  Great flight to 1,642 feet.

Stephen Krall 1 Stephen put up the "As Ugly As It Gets."  It went up on an I218.  Had a really great flight.  The altimeter worked perfectly.
John Martin 2 John  flew his "John Deere" on a cluster of five, yes five, D12-7s.  All of the motors ignited.  It had a really nice flame pattern.  Great flight.

Then "The Deere Hunter" went up on an F50-4.  Another great flight.

Philip and Daniel Mashburn 5 Daniel flew his "Fat Boy" on a B6-4.  His "Monarch" also went up on a B6-4.  The "Ion Pulsar" went on a B6-6 and the "Nike K" left on a B6-4.

Philip's "Mean Machine" flew on a D12-5.  The wind was almost too much for the tall "Mean Machine."  As it went up, the wind blew it sideways.  But it stayed pointed in the up direction.

Tracy Phelps 1 Tracy flew his "Archer" on a G65.  This is a nice looking rocket.  It flies a really nice path.
Cary Thorpe 1 Cary flew his "Recon" on a B6-4.
Jessica and Josh Tschirhart 11

Jessica flew the eye dazzling "Blorange" on an A8-3.  "Ugly 1" went up on an A8-3.  Her "Razor-X" took off on a B6-4.  "Blorange 2" flew on a C6-5 then later it went on a D12-3.

Then Jessica flew her Estes "Farside."  This is a two-stage rocket.  In the booster was a B6-0.  This staged to an A8-3.  Good staging.

Josh brought out the upscaled "Mosquito."  He flew it on a B6-4.  His "Nova Scout Ship" flew on a B6-4.

Josh put up his "Gemini-Titan II" on a C6-5.  The two-stage "Scorpion" took off on a B6-0 in the booster with an A8-3 in the sustainer.

Josh put up his "Black Brant 12."  This was a great flight.  This is a two-stage rocket with a cluster in the first stage.  The booster used two B6-4s and one B6-0.  He had a little trouble getting the three ignited.  He was using Thermalite and one igniter.  When it went, it went.  Great boost.  The staging to a B6-4 went great.  This was a very good flight.

Evan and Mike Verbeek 15

Evan put up his "AMRAAM" on a C6-3.  The "Spitfire" went on a C6-7.

His "Recon" flew on a C6-7.  The "Artillery Rocket" flew on the big Estes E9-8.  Those are really great motors.

Mike came ready to fly.  And fish.  He put up a "Fat Boy" on a C5-3.  The "AIM-120" went up with a cluster of two D12-3s.  They weren't both ignited.  It was a rather slow flight.  Not to straight.  On a return flight, both motors ignited for a great flight.

Mike's "Phoenix" left the pad on a E8-4.  The "Prowler" left on a E9-8.  He launched the "Strong Arm" on a E-23-5T.

Mike put up the "Honest John" on a E28-4.  The "Strong Arm" flew on a F50-6T.  The "Legacy" had a great flight on an F20-7.  Then the "Honest John" had a flight with an F24-M.

Mike's "Mini Magg" had a great flight up on an H268-S.  The wind took it over the trees and into the river.  Yes, there is a river on the other side of the trees.  It floated as Mike watched it go down the river.  He went to get in his van, but, the kids had locked the doors.  Never can be to safe.  The kids were being thoughtful.  Mike had left the keys in the van.  So that's what they make those magnetic key boxes for.  A quick call to the wife, "Bring keys, and a fishing pole!"  He finally got some help in the form of a boat.  He had coated the inside of the body tube with a thin layer of epoxy.  NO damage.  We should see it flying next month.

James Winsley 2 James put up the "DC-Y" on a B6-2.  Had a great flight.  This rocket does not have fins.  His "Flying Dutchman" flew on a D12.

I encourage everyone to join the NAR.  This provides you with a great magazine and that all so important liability insurance.  You must be a member of the NAR to be a member of SEVRA.  You do not have to be a member of SEVRA to fly.  We do encourage you to join SEVRA.  We use the money to pay for NAR section dues and to buy launch equipment which isn't cheap.

You have to be a member of NAR to join SEVRA.  You cannot fly high power (H motors and above) unless you join NAR.
