This is the
launch report for
May 5, 2002.
It was cloudy and a little cool. Not much wind. It was a great day for flying. It was even better as we were packing up the equipment. At the end of the day, the sky cleared and there was no wind. But, it was time to go. Seen some new faces. We are growing. It is going to be a good summer for our club.
We had Tiger Cubs show up today. Tiger Cub Den 5 from Pack 57. They put up a lot of rockets.
I want to thank those of you that were there at 11:30 to help with setting up the equipment. Also thanks go to those who stayed late to help pack the equipment up. It doesn't take long we everyone pitches in. Thanks to all.
We had 24 fliers. They put up 93 flights. Not bad considering the weather.
| Flier | Flights | Comments |
| Kortney and Tyler
Bodge
|
8 | Kortney flew his "Green
Torpedo" four times. Each time on
a B6-4. Had four great flights.
Tyler flew his "Golden Dart" four times. He also use the B6-4. Good motor for these rockets. Great flights. |
| Scott Brown | 5 | Scoot took some pictures today
with his "Blasto Cam." He
made three flights using an E28-7. We
hope there are some good pictures to see in
the future.
He put up his "Mustang" on an F50-9. Had a great flight. "Europa" flew on an H242. He used an altimeter to deploy his main chute at 500 feet. He didn't report his altitude. |
| Daniel Buckalew | 4 | Daniel flew his
"Executioner" two times on a
E9-6. This is a really great motor
made by Estes. Long burn time.
When you build a rocket that uses
"D" motors, make the necessary
changes so that it can also use this longer
"E" motor. You get
outstanding flights like Daniel's two
flights.
He then flew his "Mustang" on an E9-6. Then he decided to really test his "Mustang." He put a G40-10 white lightening motor in it. I thought he was just wanting to get rid of the rocket. What a flight. He got it back safely. |
| Pete and Jordan Covell | 9 | Jordan flew his
"Manta" on an A8-3. It flew
with a glider. His "Alpha 3"
flew on a B6-4. Jordan's "Venus
Probe" went up on a C5-3. His
"Skywinder" flew on a C6-3.
Pete's "Generic E2X" flew on a B4-4. His "Area 51" flew on a C6-0. These saucers really fly nice. His "Sith Infiltrator" flew on a C6-3. The "Big Bertha" flew on a C6-3. This was part of the "St. Louis Arch." You have to see this. Three "Big Berthas" with a streamer attached to a fin of each. Pete's "Bertha's Revenge" also took part in this flight with a C6-3. |
| Randy Ejma | 5 | Randy flew his "Streak
Eagle" on a C6-3. The
"Executioner" flew on one of those
great Estes E9-4 motors.
Randy has this really great looking "Saturn V." He flew it on a E15-4. It was a really great flight. It flew quite high. All three chutes deployed. Real great looking flight. His "initiator" flew on an F20-4. The "Little John" took off on a G80-4. Great motor for great flights. |
| Kelly Hodor | 3 | Kelly came out with her friend
who is a Tiger Cub. We hope Kelly
enjoyed the day.
She flew her "Purple Winner" on an A8-3. Her rocket named "White Rocket" took off on a B6-4. The "Cyclone" also went up on a B6-4. We hope you return in the future. |
| Jacob, Jeff, John, and
Joe Koffel
|
16 | John is the Tiger Cub in the
family. He had a big day. He
flew the "Mini Mars Lander" with
an A3-4. His "Missile
Loader" flew on an A10-3. Then
there was "Masacering" on a
B6-4. He put up his No-Name rocket on
a C5-3. Then he topped off his day
with the "Mean machine" using a
D12-7.
Jacob flew "Big Daddy" with a D12-7. Big motor, small rocket. Great flight. Joe flew his "Snitch" on a C6-0 two times. Then the "Silver Comet" took to the skies two times flying on the power of a D12-7. Jeff tried to fly the alphabet of motors. He started out with a rocket "?" flying on a C5-3. Then there was this small "Pyramid" flying on an E9-6. These pyramids can make for exciting flights. Always a heads-up flight. Jeff's "Initiator" took to the skies on an F101-15. What a flight. The "Red Crayon" left on a G33-5. The "Red Racer" went up on an H123. Then came the "Tinman!" Big rocket, 95 inches tall, 7.5 inches in diameter. The lift-off weight was 26 pounds. The motor...the big 54mm Aerotech K1100. The biggest motor to date at our launches. Jeff used an altimeter for dual deployment. Main to come out at 500 feet. This is one awesome motor. With a rocket of this size, the lift-off was very slow, and LOUD!!!. VERY LOUD!!!! The trees reflected the noise back at us making it LOUDER!!!!. It was a great flight. Reached an altitude of 1,529 feet. Did I mention that it was loud. Jeff likes big ejection charges. It was also LOUD!!! Main chute came out at 500 feet. Perfect flight. Great job Jeff! |
| Stephan Krall | 2 | Do I need to write anything
about Stephan's two flights. We have
seen them before a few times. This is
the only time that he launches rockets this
small. These motors are tiny when
compared to what he usually flies at
Whitakers. I thought that by now he
would be out of these motors.
Stephan had two great flights. These may be repetitious flights, but they are great flights. Real crowd pleasers. Straight up an noisy. High altitude. Perfect recovery. Oh, for you new-comers. The rocket is his "Mirage." It flew two times on a G80-7. |
| John Martin | 1 | John brought out his "Bomarc." Nice looking rocket. Big. He put it up on a G64-10. Great flight. It even looked liked it had acquired a target and was flying horizontal. The delay was just a touch to long. Right after it crashed into the cornfield, the ejection charge went off. Sorry John. |
| Daniel Mashburn | 5 | Daniel put up his
"Skywinder" on a B6-9. The
"Monarch" flew on a B6-4.
The "Nike-K" flew on a B6-4. Then there was "Shockwave." It went up on a C6-3. "Skywinder" flew on a C6-3. |
| Nathan and Tracy Phelps | 5 | Nathan flew his "Comic
Express" two times. Each time he
used that great motor, the E9-8.
Tracy brought out "The Dude." This is the crowd pleasing inflatable rocket. He flew it on a D12-5. If you have never seen this rocket, you have missed something. Tracy flew his "Archer" two times. He used a G80-7 and a G80-10. This is an awesome rocket. Good scale detail. Nice slow lift-off. Straight flights. I wish someone would put them back into production. If you ever get your hands on one of these kits, change the motor tube to a real 29mm. |
| Brian Reese
|
6 | Brian the Tiger Cub. He
flew a lot today. His "Orange and
Blue" took to the skies a couple of
times. He used a "A" motor
and a B6-4. His "Black
launcher" flew on a B6-4. The
"Black Rocket" flew on a C6-3.
His "Star Wars Rocket" flew on a C3. He flew one other rocket but was in such a rush, he didn't fill out everything on his flight card. Looks like he had a great day. |
| Jessica and Josh Tschirhart | 9 | Jessica flew
"Blorange" on a B6-4. We
missed her "Blorange 2" because it
is hanging in a tree at another launch
site. Her "Gamma-Ray" flew
on a B6-4.
Jessica put up her 3-stage Estes "Farside" on on a B6-0 staging to a B6-0 staging to a B6-4. Josh brought out an old kit. The original Estes "Space Shuttle Columbia." Wood fins and a nose cone. This model was not designed to glide. He flew it on a B6-4. It flew good enough that Josh brought it back to the pad with a C6-3 in it. Josh flew his 2-stage "Scorpion" staging a B6-0 to a B6-4. He did this twice. Both Jessica and Josh had excellent staging on their multi-staged rockets. Josh flew his "Big Bertha" on a C6-3 as part of the St. Louis Arch. Josh put up his "Mosquito Upscale" on a C6-5 |
| Aaron Weisenburger | 5 | Aaron put up his "Metal
Man" on a B6-4. He had just
finished building it the day before.
Had a good flight. He brought it back
and flew it on a C6-5.
Aaron flew his "Silver Comet" three times. Each time he used a D12-5. |
| Kyle and Maggie
Welch
|
7 | Kyle flew the "Purple
Rocket" on an A8-3. His
"White Rocket" took off on an
A8-3. Then the "White
Rocket" flew on a B6-4. His
"Cyclone" flew on an A8-3.
Maggie flew her "White All Star Rocket" on an A8-3. Her "White Rocket" flew on an A8-3. Her "Purple Rocket" went up on a B6-4. |
| Don Wittenauer | 3 | Don flew his new Estes
"Mean Machine" on an E9-4.
Very good flight.
His "Remember the Alamo" took off on an H220. The altimeter reported 665 feet. Had a slight problem with the motor assembly. The aft end o-ring was not properly seated in the groove. Blow by burned a hole through the motor casing and caused damage to the motor adapter and the aft centering ring. The lesson here is to always take apart what you put together to ensure the o-rings are seating correctly. Five extra seconds during motor assembly would have prevented all the damage and cost. Don then flew one of his Concrete rocket. This was the first Cessaroni Pro-38 motors at our field. The J300 performed great. A very nice motor. Good flame and good amount of noise. Easily boosted the large rocket. |
You have to be a member of NAR to join SEVRA. You cannot fly high power (H motors and above) unless you join NAR.
