This is the
launch report for
April 6, 2002.
The wind was up and the temperature was down. Some of you would think it wasn't a good day to fly. It is always a good day to leave the house to go to the park and fly rockets. If you can't fly, you can talk rockets. It is always great to meet with friends.
But we did fly.
We had 25 fliers. They put up 66 flights. Not bad considering the weather.
| Flier | Flights | Comments |
| Alex Balke | 5 | Alex put up four
rockets. His rocket named
"?" flew on a B6. He liked
that so much he brought it back with a
C6. His rocket named
"Bye-Bye" went up on a B6.
"Crooked" flew on a C6. He put an A10-3T in his "Beta." |
| Scott Brown | 5 | Scott put up his
"Skywinder" on a C6-3. His "Transwing Glider" flew on a C6-3. A bit to windy for these rocket. The glider did some serious gliding. Over the trees, towards the radio antenna, and out of sight. He did try to find it. No luck. Scott had, and I stress HAD, a nice looking "Comanche-3." He didn't fly it quite the way Estes says. He staged a D12-0 to a D12-0 to an E9-8. With the wind and the large fin area, it weather cocked. He had great staging. We think it might be in a polar orbit. His "Mustang" flew on a F12-5. That is a nice rocket. "Bubba" made a great flight on a G80-4. |
| Daniel Buckalew | 5 | Daniel flew his "Echo
Star" on a C6-7. He liked it, so
he added a booster to it. Flew it on a
C6 staging to a C6-7. Had a great
flight, and recovery.
His "Gemini DC" had a great ride on a C6-5. Daniel put up his "Mustang" on an E9-4. These are great motors. Long burn. Seems like they burn forever. He had a great flight. But Daniel wanted more. Brought it back with an F50-4T. What more could you ask for. Great flight. We did a lot of testing of the distance to the tree line today. Long streamer. Landed in a tree at the edge of the tree line. It was recovered. |
| Pete and Jordan Covell | 8 | Jordan had a couple of
flights. His "Alpha 3" went
on an A8-3. His "Skywinder"
flew on a C6-3.
Pete's "Droid Fighter" flew on an A10-3. Pete does a great job detailing his rockets. I think he put a small pilot in this one. There was a definite flight plan on this flight. Pete's "Generic E2X" flew on an A8-3. The "Prowler" went on a C6-3. He did a drag race with his "Big Bertha". Used a C6-3. His "Fat Boy" flew twice on C6-3s. The second time was part of a three-way drag race. |
| Eric Fadely | 2 | Eric flew his small "Der
Red Max" on a D12-5. Had a great
flight. He had his upscale of this
rocket. Did a very nice job with
it. To windy today for the big stuff.
He brought out his "5X Mosquito." It uses 6 C6-5s. One motor did not ignite. It flew great on just five motors. |
| Dane, Dakota, Linda, and Trisha Hauck | 4 | The Hauck family
fliers.
Dakota put up her rocket named "Dakota Hauck" on a 1/2A3-2. Had a great flight. Linda flew her "Skywinder" on a C6-3. It seems as though the C6 is the motor of choice at our field. We see a lot of them. Trisha flew the "Gnome on a 1/2A3-2. This little rocket can really go. Great flight. Dane decided that today was a good day to do a Level I certification flight. He flew a PML Miranda named "Thumper." The motor, an H73-6J. He had a great flight. We were concerned with the wind and a Blackjack motor. He had a great flight. Good deployment. Our first rocket in the power lines. The power company will be out Monday to bring it to earth. |
| Emma and Caleb Hill | 7 | Emma flew "Emma's
Flyer" on an A8-3. This was done
again using a B6-4 in a drag race. She
also flew her "Navy Fly" on a
B6-4.
Caleb flew "Luke's Ride" on an A8-3. His "Silver Streak" went up on an A8-10. Caleb's "Repair" flew on a B6-2. The "Silver Bullet" flew on a C6-3 in a drag race. |
| Marshall Hoover | 1 | Marshall flew his "Silver Bullet" on a D12-3. Had a great flight. |
| Aaron Hollowell | 1 | Aaron flew his "Hyper Bird" on a C6. These C6 motors can really get a rocket off the pad. |
| Jeff, John, and Joe Koffel | 9 | Joe flew his "Mach
12" on a B6-4. His
"Snitch" went up twice on
C6-0s. These two flights where
probably the best "Snitch" flights
I've seen. They were straight up and
high. This is with a slight wind.
John flew his "Missile Loader II" on a D-12-5. This is a very good looking rocket. Great flight. It came back to the pad with an E9-6 in it. These Estes "E" motors are starting to catch on. Had a really great flight. Jeff flew "Midnight" with a cluster of five F52-5s. Had a great flight. His "Crayon" took to the skies on a G33-5. Jeff's "G-Force" flew on a G64-4. The "Crayon" came back for another flight with a G64-7 in it. |
| John Martin | 1 | John brought back a rebuilt "John Deere." With a cluster of five D12-5s, it returned to skies. All motors fired for a great crowd pleaser. |
| Nathan and Tracy Phelps | 5 | Nathan put up his "Blue
Ninja" on a D12-5 for a really good
flight. It returned with a D12-7 in a
drag race.
Tracy flew his "Super Nova" with a D12-7 in a drag race. Then there was the drag race between the "Dudes." These are the inflatable Estes rockets. We had to wait a while for the wind to die down. It was great. They flew on D12-7s. Tracy put up his "Archer" on a G80-7. That blue thunder propellant sure moves a rocket fast. |
| Brian Sayles | 3 | Brian put up his "Fat
Boy" on a C6-5. His scaled up
"Pegaus" flew on a G64-10 for a
really great flight. There was concern
with the wind and all of the cross sectional
area. No problem.
Brian flew his "Fat Boy" in a 3-way drag race. Put he had a D12-5. The others had Cs. You could really tell which of the three had a D motor. |
| Jessica and Josh Tschirhart | 6 | Jessica brought out "Blorange" and flew it on a B6-4. Her "Blorange II" flew on a C6-5. Nice colors. Josh flew his "Big Bertha" on a C6-3. Brought it back for a drag race with Pete Covell on a C6-3. Great drag race. Josh tested a two-stage rocket. The "Black Brant." staged a B6-0 to an A8-3. Slight problem with ignition of the second stage. Put it came back for another flight. |
| Aaron Weisenburger | 1 | Aaron flew his "Huskie" on a D12-5. We are seeing a lot more D12 flights. Good flight. |
| Don Wittenauer | 3 | Don flew "Old blue"
on a C6-5 to test the winds up high.
Even with no recovery device, it did a lot
of drifting.
His Vaughn Brothers Extreme 29 took off on a D12-7. This rocket is designed for extremely high speeds and altitudes with a 29mm motor. An E motor will put it up pretty high. A D motor worked very well yesterday with the wind blowing. The red, white, and blue "Remember the Alamo" went up on an H220-S. The blue thunder propellant popped it off of the pad. Even with a small parachute and the weight of the rocket, it drifted over the trees into the field by the radio antenna. |
You have to be a member of NAR to join SEVRA. You cannot fly high power (H motors and above) unless you join NAR.
